It’s Ok If You Don’t Actually Have it All Together

When people hear that I have 6 kids, invariably they’ll say, “I don’t know how you do it!” To which I most often respond, “Welp, sometimes I don’t!”

Hear me out. I have lofty goals of a beautiful home, pristinely decorated and children all put together from their haircuts right down to their manicured fingernails. HA!! Oh my, that sounds like a whole lotta exhaustion to me right there.

The other day we left to go grocery shopping only to find that when I grabbed my 3-year-old out of the car he had no shoes on. Really!?! I have found myself last minute brushing my 8-year-old’s hair right before school, or throwing a lunch together with too many crackers and not enough fruit because we just hadn’t made it to the store that week–anyone else!?! Please know that we decorate for the holidays just like most people, but often I don’t get to cleaning it up in time for the next holiday!

While I am not encouraging mediocrity, I am advocating for giving yourself a little grace and affording others the same. Everyone wants to have it all together, sometimes you will, and sometimes you won’t, and it is totally ok to embrace it and show a picture of your messy house or laugh when you see the peanut butter on your kids’ faces or on your very own shirt!! So, give yourself a break, and everyone else too!! Just assume that everyone is doing the best that they can because you are too!!
