Need Kid Music? Give These Artists and Stations a Try!

We love the power and influence music has on children–old and young!! Did you know that music stimulates the brain and helps people remember things? Music helps calm anxiety and depression, encourages healthy movement, and classical music enables people to sharpen their focus!

I grew up in a home that was constantly filled with music, from people singing, to the piano and guitar being played, to music sounding from various stereos throughout my house. To have so many siblings with differing taste was a fun experiment in music exposure for me! My home is now filled with music, and after a lot of searching and experimenting, I have found some awesome Pandora and Spotify stations to listen to with my elementary school kids!! Here are my top 5! They are all found on YouTube as well!

1.Justin Roberts (Children’s) Radio! This station has a fun array of songs that mostly include upbeat, happy tunes. It’s great to have going on in the background when my kids are doing jobs around the house or playing.

2.Children’s Primary Song Medley. This one is a little more chill, some slower songs and calm down melodies. Some are religious, most are not. A good background to set the tone of chill in the house.

3.They Might Be Giants (Children’s) Radio. If you are familiar with “They Might Be Giants” you know that they have silly songs in general, but their children’s music is informative and entertaining. They have songs about science, the alphabet, and numbers. My kids have really enjoyed their music and while I like their older music that’s silly and not necessarily catered to kids, their kids’ music is just as entertaining for me as it is for me kids–meaning, I don’t feel like I want to throw my phone after listening to their music 🙂

4.Caspar Babypants. Stay with me here. This singer is originally from the band “The United States of America” and has a unique voice with entertaining songs. They are funny, and endearing. My kids always get quiet to hear the words in his songs, sung in his distinct voice. Good times, give it a listen.

5.Laurie Berkner Radio. If you haven’t danced around to “The Goldfish Song” or “Here Come The Dinosaurs” then you are missing out! Berkner has a trove of fun songs, those to dance to and those to just sing along to, she is great! Whenever I am in charge of a joy school or preschool at my house we use one of her songs to start and end the class!

We LOVE music around here and are so happy to listen to Disney songs and musicals alike, however, when we’re looking for something a little different to engage the kids, these are my go-to artists and stations!

Here’s to our homes being filled with a little more music and dancing!! Cheers!
