Thinking out of the Box for Family Night Ideas!

We love to meet once a week as a family on Monday night and have a lesson, scripture and activity! This is a joyful tradition that is a part of our family culture. However, sometimes we just mix it up for fun! After all the point is to create memories, learn life lessons and connect!

Here are a few new ideas you might like to throw into the mix! This can be done on a Monday night or a weekend night! 🙂

1. Game Night Extravaganza:
   – Gather a variety of board games, & card games suitable to the ages of your family. Have a mini-tournament with prizes for the winners. Here are some of our favorite games!

2. DIY Pizza Night:
   – Provide an array of toppings and let everyone create their own personalized pizzas. Bake and enjoy the delicious creations together. During dinner go over the “high and low” of everyone’s day! Perhaps you would rather try our delicious fruit pizza to have for a family dessert!

3. Outdoor Movie Night:
   – Set up a projector in your backyard or a cozy spot indoors. Make popcorn, grab some blankets, and enjoy a family movie under the stars. Invite another family from the neighborhood!

4. Last Minute Themed Costume Party:
   – Choose a fun theme (e.g., superheroes, favorite movie characters) and have a costume party. This can either be done with 2 weeks to plan, or a last minute “instant dress up.” The pressure and adrenaline from a last minute dress up party can be a crazy delightful laugh fest!

5. Scavenger Hunt:
   – Create a scavenger hunt with clues and hidden items around the house or in the backyard. Work together as a family to solve the clues and find the hidden treasures.

6. Cupcake Wars/Decoration Night:
   – Set up a creative space with various candy supplies and fresh cupcakes. Let everyone unleash their artistic talents and create masterpieces! Snap some pictures and enjoy the yumminess.

7. Karaoke Party:
   – Set up a karaoke machine or use a karaoke app and have a blast singing and dancing together. Encourage everyone to choose their favorite songs. (Try mixing this one with the instant costume party!)

8. Trivia Night:
    – Prepare a list of trivia questions on various topics. Split into teams and have a trivia competition. The team with the most correct answers wins.

9. Book Club Night:
    – Choose a family-friendly book to read together and discuss. If you have littles, this can be read to them at night to help them be prepared! No pressure here, plan this one is advance. Look for a book that has an audio book. Here are some of our favorites! Serve snacks and engage in a lively conversation about the story and characters.

10. Family Talent Show:
    – Showcase each family member’s talents, whether it’s singing, dancing, telling jokes, or performing magic tricks. Applaud and appreciate each other’s skills. This is a great way to increase confidence and self esteem.

11. Planting Party:
    – Start a family garden or create individual potted plants. Teach kids about gardening and the importance of caring for plants. Try planting basil, grape tomatoes or sugar snap peas!

Our family nights are occasionally beautifully put together, but often enough they are a bit messy and last minute. 🙂 The thing we really have going for us, is we are consistent!
