Quick! Grab One of These Halloween Books to Read!!

It will totally be Halloween in two shakes of a lambs tail–do you know how often lambs shake their tail, because I do not. Let’s try something more season-appropriate–in two flaps of a bats’ wings, and I am headed into my kids’ elementary school classrooms next week to read some fun books! I realized that I hadn’t shared some of my favorite Halloween picture books with you all! I feel like Halloween is a holiday that generally people don’t have go-to books for. So, I thought I’d share my 5 favorite! I am ALWAYS on the look out for more great read-a-louds, so if you know of one that I haven’t listed, please share your best books!!! Alright, here goes:

  1. The Perfect Pumpkin Pie by Denys Cazet! This book was really meant to be read aloud! It has a fun little cadence in it that will get the whole class (or your family) to repeat it as it goes. Super fun, great illustrations, perfect for all ages!!
  2. Snowmen at Halloween by Caralyn Buehner and Mark Buehner! If you are not familiar with the Snowmen books, you should really check them out, they are so fun and imaginative, especially for the little ones! This book is great for younger grades, K-2!!
  3. Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler! This is a classic! Sometimes I think we forget about the classics, but I always keep this one handy if I’m in a pinch in the Fall!!
  4. Hogula: Dread Pig of the Night by Jean Gralley! Fun, silly book that might feel a smidgen scary to littles!! It’s a great read aloud if you’re willing to HAM it up!!
  5. The Widow’s Broom by Chris Van Allsburg! This is totally one of my favorites!! Especially great for the older elementary school aged kids!! 2-6 grades! It’s a little spooky and takes a little more thought to figure it out. We are total fans of Chris Van Allsburg–he wrote The Polar Express and Jumanji, among other classics!
  6. Halloween by Jerry Seinfeld! If you haven’t heard Jerry Seinfeld’s comedy bit about Halloween you should totally look it up. It is pretty dang funny. This book is based on that act. It is a little snarky and probably better for the older grades, 3-6th sounds about right.

That’s it!! Those are some of our faves!! Grab them from your public library, or snag it on Amazon, because, really, these are worth having in your own home library, and get ready to be immersed in holiday spirit!! Enjoy!
