A New Favorite Picture Book to Read With Your Kids!

If you’re new around here, you may not know how much we LOVE books!!! Big books, small books, picture books, graphic novels, give us all the books! Well, let me restate that. Give us all the GOOD books! We go to the library once or twice a week and usually get 30-50 books, depending on what kid is with me. I am always on the look out for fresh books to read in my kids’ classrooms. (Need a reason to be in your kids’ class? Read this!) I love being in their classes. Being a familiar presence helps my kids see that I am invested in them, helps me see how they interact with other kids in their classes, and gets me some excited, “Hi Mrs. Vaughan!!!!” greetings in the hallway when I’m there for other things. So, overall, if you are able, get into that classroom!!

This week I picked up this cute book on the shelf at our public library:

Now, we get books so frequently from the library that are just pretty good or only ok, that I didn’t have any expectation when I read this to my littles before bed one evening. By the end of this book, however, I was smiling and hoping my kids could feels its power!

It’s about that little monster on the cover changing into a better monster and finding friends his own way. His decision of being good and making good friends, even with creatures that would normally be overlooked, is the message I hope sticks with my kids. Be a good person, kind, and grateful. Goodness attracts goodness.

So if you’re wanting a fun book to read in your kids’ class, or need a book to encourage your kids to go against the grain and not worry about what everyone else is doing, this is a great book to get at your local library–or snag it on Amazon! I hope it brings the same smile to your face that it did to ours!!

Happy Reading!!
