The Chocolate Bar Game! The Most Epic Party Fun!

Everyone needs this game in their party repertoire! This game is going to be your new favorite, and can turn a mild party into a rousing bout of memorable fun! It only takes a few supplies, it is easy to execute and appeals to kids from age 7 easily into adulthood!

We have played the chocolate game too many times to count at birthday parties, cousin get togethers, youth activities, family dinners and etc. My daughter played this at her 10 year old birthday party, and this last week asked for it again at her 17 year old birthday party! It’s just easy fun that delivers! Wait until you see everyone in the height of rabid competition pining for a chance to get into that chocolate bar, despite a full dessert bar nearby!

Supplies needed for this delightful fun:

  • A Giant Candy Bar (We often buy 2 just to be prepared if the first one goes unexpectedly quick)
  • 2 butter knives
  • A long pair of new or clean socks (some people use oven mitts)
  • A cookie sheet (this helps contain the mess!)
  • 2 dice
  • A countertop for everyone to gather around, or a table (we have done it on the floor as well)
All the Supplies to play the Chocolate game!
Party fun anyone?

This is how to play! Gather everyone around the counter or table. Explain the rules (use a fun accent to explain if you dare!) “You are about to embark into the crazy shenanigan known as the chocolate bar game. The way this is played, is first you roll the dice. If you are lucky enough to get doubles (two ones, two fives or etc.) you shout “Doubles!,” Immediately pass the dice to your left and reach for the cookie sheet that has all the equipment. You must pull the socks onto your hands as quickly as possible and use the two butter knives to try to access the chocolate! No using any other parts of your body! You have only the amount of time until someone else rolls doubles to try to access or eat as much chocolate as you can.” Keep in mind, the dice has continually been in motion being rolled by the other guests. “Doubles” is shouted more often that you would expect. Sometimes, someone only gets a chance to pull on one sock, before someone else gleefully shouts “doubles,” and the cookie sheet and the rest of the equipment gets hastily passed along. It often takes several turns of people digging at the bar in their sock and knife state to even get the wrapper off! This of course, is all part of the anticipation and fun!

Certainly a captivating part of the game is watching the person who is making progress actually getting into the chocolate bar, but you as the host, keep the dice going! We’ve have the game take as long as 20+ minutes to get though the chocolate bar and as little as 5 if the kids are older and perhaps more daring!

Other rules to make clear: chop or wrangle a piece of the bar and bring to your mouth only as much as you can fit in your mouth as one bite (about one section). Picking up the whole bar and biting it is a no go! (This is a group game after all!) Roll the dice in front of you, throwing it across the counter only slows down the game! No drooling or you are automatically disqualified (We’ve only had this happen once! Ha ha!)

If the first game was fast, we pull out the second chocolate bar, so that everyone who is feeling as though they lost, can have a second chance!

This is a tried and true crowd pleasing game! Stay tuned for other fun party games we will share soon!
