5 Ways to Make Your Halloween More Memorable!

We love Halloween around here! It is the time of year that we get to dress up for no reason and nobody looks at us sideways! 🙂 Well, mostly! My kids can be found wearing any number of costumes with me on any random day while we’re at the grocery store, but even more so in the month of October. Here are just some of our very favorite ways to make memories this time of year!

  1. Make a fun Halloween Dinner!! Every year we make mummies for dinner on Halloween. We just grab some hot dogs and bratwurst at the store and get some refrigerated croissant dough and wrap them up like a mummy. Bake it till the dough is golden, then add mustard for eyes, or ketchup if you prefer. My kids LOVE this tradition. It’s just a simple way that makes it feel like Halloween for my people!

2. Get some dry ice!!! My husband used to get dry ice all the time from one of his previous jobs. He’d set out a couple of bowls, remind the kids not to touch it, then let them dance around the room while it filled the floor with mist! Pure magic! If you’re not up for the misty dance party, stick it in your Halloween dinner punch bowl! Such a simple thing that truly brings the spookiness of Halloween home!!

3. BOO! your neighbors!! This is a favorite for sure! Every year we try to be the first in our neighborhood to start the “BOOing!” Never heard of it? This is how it works. You print, or have your kids draw, 2 pages with a ghost that says “We’ve been BOO’d!” Then you print, or have your kids write, the instructions:

Enjoy the treats! Place the “BOO” ghost sign on your front door or window. Within the next 2 days make some treats and copy the instructions and ghost sign. Secretly deliver them to 2 neighbors that have not been “BOO’d” yet!

It is so fun to see how many houses are “BOO’d” during the month! Be the one to start this chain reaction of service and see how good it feels!! You’re kids are sure to love it and remember! It’s a good way to learn the joy of anonymous service as well…if they can keep the secret! HA!

4. Let your kids paint your face!! Ok, stay with me here! One year I just decided to have my little guy (he was in first grade at the time) paint my face however he wanted. He chose to paint it green and I kept it that way the whole day. When I picked him up from school that day he was elated!!! All my kids thought it was hilarious and I have given them opportunities to randomly paint my face in October ever since. Let them have fun!

5. Experiment with fun Fall desserts!!! One year my husband made some brownies and pulled out some marshmallows and green frosting. He had bought some candy eyeballs and let my kids make some ghost and ghouls on top of the brownies. So fun! My kids LOVE baking with Brian!!!

Incorporate one or two of these simple ideas to liven up some of your holiday memories!!

Happy Haunting to all and to all a good fright!!!!
