You know those dinner parties where you are sitting around the table with conversation starters, and someone pulls out a card and asks you:
“What is something that you have always wanted to do, but haven’t?”
What is your answer? What dreams do you have? Perhaps you have shelved your dreams for a time that is less busy. Perhaps you discarded your dreams as impractical whims of a young mind. Perhaps you just haven’t dreamed for a long time.
Let me introduce you to my brother-in-law Rick! Rick is a father, a man who loves to sing and also happens to be an OBGYN. He has delivered the babies of hundreds of women in Phoenix. (Including the darling triplets of my brother!) Raising his 4 kids (with his amazing wife of course), working as a doctor and volunteering at the local High School as an assistant volleyball coach has truly kept Rick busy in all the right ways. However, Rick had additional dreams on his bucket list.
Rick loves the show Forever Plaid, a fun and cheesy musical. Over the last several years he has auditioned for the role of the bass singer, Smudge, four or five times. He has never been cast. However, he courageously didn’t give up. He put himself out there again and auditioned! Then wouldn’t you know it, he was finally cast a few months ago. We saw his performance this last weekend!
It was a delightful show! His family, friends, and coworkers showed up in big ways to support him and applaud his dream! We also laughed and smiled the entire time at all the humor, fun music and the great characters. There were four men dressed in plaid tuxedos singing dreamy harmonies of songs from years ago. It was completely charming.
Rick has other dreams on his bucket list, and I believe he will conquer them.
