10 More Great Read Aloud Picture Books for Elementary School Kids

Remember how last year we shared a list of our favorite read aloud picture books?? Well, there’s more where that came from!! We are always on the look out for great books and are so happy when we find a winner! A picture book can pack a big punch of laughter, shock, or reflection!

I absolutely LOVE reading books in my kids’ classrooms. It’s a fun way for me to get to know their classmates and have some fun with my kids. My younger kids excitedly join their older sibling on the carpet and love sharing part of their school day with them. Almost always they say that it’s the favorite part of their day. Getting into the classroom and is so important to get to know the teacher, and let your kids know that they are not forgotten to you during the school day. So, here’s a list of some of our favorite books to share in our kids’ classrooms!! I am certain you’ll love them too!!

A New Day by Brad Meltzer–This book is funny and teaches the importance of gratitude and kindness!

After the Fall by Dan Santat–A sweet book of resilience and getting up after we fall–even Humpty Dumpty!

Little Penguin gets the Hiccups by Tadgh Bentley–This book is silly and always gets my kids laughing, especially the younger ones! Get your best “hiccup” sounds ready!

The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors by Drew Daywalt–A silly explanation of how this beloved children’s game came to be!

The Remarkable Farkle McBride by John Lithgow–This book is fantastic and relatable! A boy can’t decide on an instrument and ends up finding out what he’s really good at!

Chez Bob by Bob Shea–Making friends in the unlikeliest of places!

The Wall in the Middle of the Book by Jon Agee–Fun for the younger ages, teaches the importance of not assuming things!

It Could Be Worse Einat Tsarfati–This book is ridiculous and funny! It teaches us that really, it could be much, much worse!

And for some of the older Elementary school kids:

Nya’s Long Walk by Linda Sue Park–This book helps us appreciate our world a little more. Nya’s sister gets sick and she needs to get her to safety. Great message!

The Bravest Man in the World by Patricia Polacco–A book about the Titanic! Talks about the man that continued to play his violin amidst the chaos that ensued after the iceberg was hit. Totally moving, and sad!!

The Moon Over Star by Jerry Pinkney–This book can be read to younger readers too, just will maybe be appreciated by the bigger kids more. Talks about Neil Armstrong landing on the moon and the experience of those on earth watching it happen.

There it is!! Grab a book and head to your kid’s classroom!! Books enrich our lives and expand our understanding and appreciation!
