Crafts Fundamentals Just an Idea Memory Makers Small and Mighty Ideas Tradition

What the World Needs now is Love Sweet Love!

I just got back from Girl’s Camp with my youth group from church! We camped in tents near a lake and had such a run-through-the-woods-with-glee time! We came home with sunburns, dirt under our fingernails and a lot of good memories! We threw axes, rode zip lines, went horseback riding, canoed and hiked. We also decorated journals, attended uplifting classes and were out of range of cell phone reception! Hooray! What a great way to recharge! It would take a couple articles to capture all the good, but let me share with you one beautiful aspect of girl’s camp: The Love Note Station!

Sometimes it is hard to express to someone in person all the wonderful things you admire about them, but with a pen and paper and time away in the woods, it only takes a few minutes to share a compliment with another. This is an incredibly easy station to create and provides a feeling a belonging, unity and of course love. I would not put together a girl’s camp without it!

This year in creating the love note station we brought the large envelopes to an activity the week before and had the girls decorate their own envelopes. In the past, we have simply written their names on them ourselves (also perfect if you are doing this last minute)! The girls know these envelopes are only for positive messages! Even having a love note station nearby causes you to look at the good and unique in each individual. This is a powerful way to focus!

A Love Note Station only needs a few supplies:

  • Pens
  • Lots of Paper (notecards are a great size for this!) These would also be fun!
  • Scissors
  • Stickers or any paper embellishments
  • Glue Sticks

Then set the supplies up on a table in a main area of your camp or cabin. We have often strung bakers twine or the like between two points and hung the envelopes with clothespins! This year we were in tents and it was quite windy where we were, so we duct taped the envelopes around the table and luckily they held! Then in between the planned activities, when the girls have a few minutes, they will write their notes and start filling those envelopes!

At the end of camp all the girls will go home with a big ol’ envelope full of self esteem boosting kind notes! This year a couple of the girls said they have all their notes from the last couple of years!

There are so many messages that we receive every day. Many of them are negative. This simple love note station is a beautiful bucket filler.

Could you do this in your family? At a family reunion? At a co-worker retreat? Yes! I might relabel it The Admiration Station, but you get the gist.

Here’s another simple way to spread joy and good feelings.

And couldn’t we all use a little more of that?

If you recognize the title of this article as a song from so many years ago, please know my father used to play this song occasionally on the piano when I was a child, and the message stayed in my heart. Thanks dad!

Just so you know: if you follow the links above and order any of the products, we might receive a few pennies back. Regardless, hopefully they provide a great visual for creating your own love note station!
