Our Favorite, Super Simple, Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

Summertime means homemade ice cream!! Memorial Day, Fourth of July, really any hot day means it’s time for a cold treat!

We love this easy recipe for the fact that we almost always have these ingredients on hand! The only real prep we need is to stick the ice cream mixer bowl in the freezer the night before. If you have an old fashioned ice cream maker though, one that requires ice and rock salt, you can skip that step. We have one of those too. We also have this ice cream maker, and for Father’s Day one year I bought my husband the ice cream bowl attachment for his kitchen aid mixer. Any of those make a great birthday or Father’s day gift!

The one exception is the vanilla bean paste–sometimes we don’t have any of that left. My husband uses it to make crème brulee, so if we’re out, we just substitute it for vanilla extract. I appreciate the richness of the vanilla bean paste which brings in a more full flavor, however in a pinch, a quality extract works just fine!!

The best part of vanilla ice cream is that you can add in so many things to mix it up!

My 13 year old made this particular batch–so fun and easy!

Just 4 ingredients, make sure to keep your cold ingredients in the fridge right up until you use them! It will help the ice cream form a little faster!

Here goes, ready?

Heavy Whipping Cream, Whole Milk, Sugar, Vanilla Bean Paste (or Vanilla Extract if needed)

That’s it! No cooking ingredients beforehand? Sign me up!

Combine all four ingredients:

Pour combined ingredients into an ice cream maker–make sure the bowl is chilled appropriately if required!

Flip the switch and watch the ingredients begin to churn into ice cream!!

If you prefer soft serve, you can eat it as soon as it’s churned! If you’d like it a little firmer, stick it in the freezer for an hour, and then enjoy!!
