Just a Little Left of Ordinary

If you haven’t yet read Atomic Habits–you totally should! It really puts into perspective what we can accomplish just by small, seemingly insignificant choices. I shared a part of the book with my kids, the part where the author speaks of a woman who lost 100 pounds just by asking herself, “What would a healthy person do,” and then decided to do that instead of what she might normally do. As a result, she became a healthy person. This inspired me to start asking myself things like, “What would a kind person do,” or, “What would a responsible mom do here?” We all have things to work on, but changing our behavior at the source, our thoughts, can do amazing things for our actions!

However, as much as I love talking about goals, because really, I do, today I wanted to include a kind word for a different question. “What would make this moment/day/week/month more memorable?” Now, we’re not talking about crazy things here, no need for a traumatic experience to make something memorable! What I’m saying is what can we do that’s just a little out of the ordinary enough to make it memorable?

Taking lunch to school to eat with your kids? Heart-attacking your significant other’s car, or the car of a friend? Writing a note and leaving it on a stranger’s car. All of these small acts can have a great impact. Playing hooky with your kids to go to the park/zoo/snowboarding, or just staying at home to watch a movie! Write a note and stick it in your kids’ backpack. Roll down the windows and blast some music while you sing at the top of your lungs with your people. Grabbing lunch at Costco before you head home, or just deciding to greet everyone you see with a, “hello!”

This is just your friendly reminder to do something just a little different this weekend with those that you love. Just a little left of ordinary! Make some memories!!
