Fundamentals Happy Home Culture Just an Idea Memory Makers Small and Mighty Ideas Tradition

What Better way to Celebrate the 4th of July than with a Parade!?!

This time last year when everything was shut down due to the pandemic (are we tired of that phrase yet!?!) my kids were sorely disappointed that there was no parade. In our city, there’s a small parade in which kids can decorate their bikes and dress up to celebrate our country’s independence. We couldn’t gather in large groups.

What could we do!?!

We made our own parade in our neighborhood!

We decorated bikes, dressed in our finest red, white, and blue ensembles. Used crepe paper and small American flags and set out to spread a little cheer.

I texted friends in the neighborhood letting them know that we would be walking by and if they could come out on their lawns (at a safe 10 feet distance 😉 ) we could “join” together to celebrate one of our favorite holidays!

We walked around for 5 or 6 blocks while I blasted fun, patriotic songs on my phone. Other families joined to walk with us (also at a safe distance) and our spirits were lifted. It is such a good memory for us and I hope that my kids remember how we took a sad situation and decided to celebrate anyway!

And even though there will be a parade in our city again this year, we will also be holding our 2nd annual neighborhood parade. Here’s to the inspiration for fun traditions!!!

(As an aside, that cute little redhead in the front had a blast, but was, in fact, having a moment when we took that picture) 🙂
