Halloween Costumes for the Last Minute or Reluctant Participant!

Need some ideas to consider for Halloween this year? Perhaps you are trying to convince a reluctant kiddo that there is still fun to be had! We have some fun & easy ideas for you! Happily the kind you can pull together quickly!

If you have a t-shirt and sharpies (or fabric markers of course) you have the makings of some fun for Halloween! You can write things like:

  • This is what’s left of my costume!
  • Error 404: Costume Not Found
  • Sorry Teacher, The Dog ate my Costume!
  • What? (Big & Bold on the front) This is my Costume (on the back of the shirt!)

You get the idea. A mildly clever sentence will get you by at most parties! Hooray!

Face paint! There are thousands of tutorials on YouTube with costumes that only revolve around makeup! See my cute niece here? Just a small investment of 15 minutes and a headband and you can have any number of unique looks! There are deer as pictured here, or any number of the big cats: Lion, Jaguar or a Cheetah. There any unlimited ideas such as a doll, clown, bat, wolf, fairy or a unicorn! Or you can venture into the spookier side of Halloween creating a skeleton, mummy, zombie and etc. There are seemingly unlimited face painting ideas! If you are not afraid to use a little makeup and follow a tutorial, you have got yourself a viable last minute costume wearing your own cozy clothes!

If you have enough time left before the party or event to run to the dollar store, then you can easily create this stick figure! At least 3 of my kids have been a glow in the dark stick figure for Halloween and it is always a hit! You just need plain black clothing, long glow sticks, some tape and safety pins! If you love the convenience of on-line shopping, then the link to buy these glow sticks is here. I definitely find the longer glow sticks to be easier to work with, but the shorter ones make great connector pieces. Remember that once it is dark, you mostly only see the glow sticks which is a fun effect! We get so many compliments on this super easy costume! One year my son rode his skateboard in this costume and the whole neighborhood was abuzz with the fun of it! A glowing stick-figure on a skateboard!

How cute is this one on these fun friends? Adorable! Group costumes are some of the most fun! Remember with some felt from a craft store in hand, you are open to lots of possibilities! These dominoes can be created with circles of white felt, but even easier are the stickers you can buy to create the patterns. The costumes start with all black clothes, then add the stickers and some ribbon around the middle. Other group costumes that can be assembled in the last couple days before the event include:

  • Crayons (colored t-shirts at craft stores)
  • Skittles (again various colored t-shirts!)
  • M&Ms
  • 3 Blind Mice–We used sunglasses, long walking sticks, mouse ears and band aids on our bums where the tails were cut off. So just our own clothes and some accessories! Yea!
  • A family of Stick Figures (so fun with different sizes of kiddos!)
  • Men in Black (White shirt, black suit coat, black tie, sunglasses!)

This costume becomes an instant favorite of the neighborhood! A chick magnet! We created it by grabbing a shirt from the closet that was not being used and hot gluing little wooden craft pieces from Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or the like! You could also use these little chicks that are pictured on the sign. We cut the letters out on my Cricut and attached them to 12×12 cardstock! We have also seen this costume done with Barbies hot glued to a shirt and the sign said: “Babe Magnet.”

Whether you choose to use face paint, or just go all out on hair! There are lots of options for last minute Halloween fun! Kids and adults alike come with a whole range of emotions about the day from enthusiasm to apathy! You can help find a small way to add to their fun by presenting simple, doable and completely joyful options. From easy as a t-shirt to more elaborate face make-up!

Let’s leave you with this adorable little felt beret frenchman! 🙂 Oui Oui! Happy Halloween friends!
