Just an Idea

Need a Fun Way to Show Appreciation? Hide a Note!

School is in full swing and I don’t see 5 of my kids as much as I used to. I miss them!! Don’t get me wrong, I’m plenty busy during the day, but I’ve noticed that between school, sports, and music lessons I am feeling a disconnect with them. I have been trying to bridge the gap lately with notes!! Behold–THE STICKY NOTE!!!

So, I’ve been playing a little game with my kids–where is the next note that you’ll find from Mom? I’ve stuck notes in their school notebooks, backpacks, lunches, even in the little pocket in their strap meant for ear buds! Sometimes they find the notes right away, and sometimes it’ll take a week–hopefully not with the lunch notes–nobody wants that ham and cheese sandwich!!

I keep a sticky notepad in my car now and we have left notes on other people’s cars as well as their windows, and front doors! We are spreading smiles one sticky note at a time!! I am actually really grateful for a way to help my kids see a way to reach outside of themselves and make a small difference in the lives of those around them! My kids have enjoyed playing the rainbow game, trying to find cars in every color of the rainbow in order as we drive. There is one token purple truck in our city. Purple is a tricky car color to find and one day my kids said, “We really need to leave a note on that truck and let them know how happy it makes us to see it.” So, one day we saw it parked near my husband’s work, so we snuck over and left a note on the windshield!

Also, my oldest daughter makes herself a list in the evening of what she needs to get done before school the next day:

The last few weeks I’ve randomly placed my own list for her to check off before school on top of hers:

And in response I’ve found little love notes from my kids in my car, in my bathroom, and on my bed! Total sweetness!

It can be tricky to find connection with your people throughout the school day, but these little hidden love notes have brought a smile to my face, both knowing that they will be seen by my people unexpectedly, and discovering those that have been hidden for me to find!!

So get yourself some sticky notes, a notepad, or just some scratch paper and see how many connections you can make with your people!
