Family Reunions: A Small Connection that Makes a Big Difference!

If you are fortunate, you live close to some of your favorite people! But many of us have miles between family members as well as life obligations such as work & school that makes getting together rather complicated. Here are amazing reasons why you should make a consistent family reunion a priority!

A True Sense of Connection: It’s one thing to share with your kids stories of your siblings, parents or cousins. However, actually getting together for a few days every year, or even every two years, gives everyone a wonderful sense of connection to something bigger! You are a part of a family! People that are striving to conquer life, struggling in their own way and working at being good humans. This is actually a powerful antidote to the feeling of disconnection that is prevalent in today’s society.

Making Memories with Family! Family reunions tend to be full of games, stories, crafts and adventures. This allows new fun family memories to be made for all ages! Picture the 5 year old girl who may make a bracelet with a cousin, the 13 year old boy who learns a new card game, grandma who can’t believe her family is so big and everyone in between! New family jokes come up, sometimes new disasters, but everything forms memories!

Family Photos! Pictures or it didn’t happen! Those few days pass by so quickly, but at the end you are left with new memories and some fun photos to linger! I use the photos to make a family calendar that also keeps us connected!

Next week is going to be an epic family reunion! It has been two years in the making! My family is in charge of this year’s reunion. (We rotate through the siblings the person who will lead the planning and activities.) When all of our children were little, it seems that we looked for a place with a pool and a playground, but now that we are growing up a bit, we are headed white water rafting! Woo-hoo!

Some of my kids have attended a university with their cousins from other states! They were already connected from family reunions together. This sense of belonging is therapeutic and grows confidence! That’s not to say everyone gets along with perfection. There are still human foibles and differing personalities, but there are also shared experiences, laughter, forgiveness and love.

You just cannot put a price on that tremendous worth.

It’s definitely worth all the work to put it together.

Let’s keep our families strong, building them a few reunion days at a time. See you next week my cute family! 🙂

Stay tuned, soon I will share our favorite uproarious games that are sure to make memories!
